This article explains the importance of the awareness of the ecological systems that surrounds at-risk youths, in an attempt to understand them; this is a way of understanding how the whole community functions to develop the child till the point they are able to find their place in society. There are typically four ecological levels, which contain both socio-cultural risks and opportunities for the young person. Within the ecological systems are certain traits that are critical for the success of a child.
